Peshwai of Juna Akhara and Agni Akhara marks the beginning of Prayagraj Kumbh Mela

The saints of Juna Akhara and Agni Akhara entered the Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj on Tuesday with traditional fanfare of Peshwai. According to the Vedic tradition, all saints from the particular Akhara participate in a procession lead by the head of the Akhara with their religious flag and enter the kumbh mela premises allocated to them. The saints come in their traditional religious attire and weapons.
With the grand entry of Juna Akhara and Agni Akhara to the Kumbh Mela area around Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, the festival is informally started. Preparations for Peshwas were completed a day before and the Sadhu Society has been finalizing the preparations for the entire mela period. Peshwai of Juna Akhara entered the fair area by way of Yoguna Bank Road, New Yamuna Bridge, Parade Maidan and Mela Administration Office from Muzagiri Ashram. While the processions were witnessed thousands, Naga Sadhus were a major attraction.
