In this upcoming Kumbh Mela, the organisers are planning to make the event as women-friendly as they can with sensitisation training They have formed a separate ghat among other measures. Kumbh Mela 2019 starts on January 15 and ends on March 4 and is expected to get about 12 million visitors, with almost half of them women, some of them on their own.
The Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI) at Prayagraj is presently training about 8,500 police personnel and an additional 9,000 paramilitaries on gender, cultural and linguistic dialect sensitisation.
The training sessions is the brainchild of KP Singh, deputy inspector general of police, Kumbh Mela to construct a women-only ghat in Kumbh. Singh told media that its the first time this kind of gender-sensitisation is taking place for the Kumbh Mela. As almost half the population at the Kumbh is likely to be of women, gender sensitisation is an important aspect.
